The West End of Vancouver is located in the North Central part of Vancouver and lies West of the Downtown Core. The area is neighboring Stanley Park and the areas of Yaletown, Coal Harbour, The Financial and Central Business District, on three sides and surrounded by water from the Pacific Ocean at English Bay, Coal Harbour, and Lost Lagoon. Close to 45,000 people live in the West End and it is home of a mixed population. In 1910, the residential area developed apartments were built and larger homes were converted into rooming houses.
The Davie Village a hub for the city's gay community is located in West End. The high-end retail on the Robson Street and Alberni Street offer a great shopping experience. There are a lot of boutiques, bars, restaurants and cafes to enjoy. West End is also known for English Bay Beach, where most Vancouverites and Tourists take in the sunny summer days. There is a large park on English Bay and each year mid-summer you can watch the annual Celebration of Light fireworks display.
